At our house today

North Carolina is experiencing an abnormal cold snap. (It's January, I'm not complaining.) But it will mean today (this week) we'll be hunkering down at home.

We have the first essential for such a day: a good banana bread. The ultimate comfort food. My go-to recipe place lately, Mel's Kitchen Cafe. (Along with the rest of the intelligent world.)

I'll be doing a little admiring of my latest little thrifting knickknacks. (Porcelain dove, $4.50. Green sphere vase, $2.25.)

We'll no doubt read the current favorite, Tyrannosaurus Drip by Julia Donaldson and David Roberts. And I must say, I'm not even tired of it. Can't help liking a clever plot and good rhyming verse.

We're also into The Mouse Called Wolf by Dick King-Smith (wrote Babe) right now. Post-lunch read.

Billy Blanks Tae-bo "Amped-Turbo Charged Fat Burner" workout is also in the cards for me today. We had a videotape (as in VHS) of him in high school that I did on occassion. So Billy Blanks, for old times sake. And for burning off some of the entire loaf of the aforementioned banana bread I will no doubt consume.

At Family Night, we'll be reviewing the why and how of saying "I'm sorry".

And I'm definitely, definitely, definitely going to be watching Bleak House tonight. (!!) We started it this Friday night and are officially sucked in. We're on episode 7 of...19 or something. It's completely excellent. Dickens and BBC at their finest.

It's going to be a good day.

  1. I thought we'd read almost all of Julia Donaldson's books but not that one! I'm putting it on hold at the library right now.
